John Killingbeck BSc BVM&S CertEP MRCVS

John has more than 30 years experience of equine practice. He holds the RCVS certificate in Equine Practice and has a particular interest in competition horses, with a special emphasis on orthopaedics and lameness. He has travelled extensively around the world with a number of National Event Teams to three Olympic Games and several European and World Championships, and was the Official Veterinary Surgeon to the British Three Day Event team from 1992-97. John now acts as an FEI Veterinary Delegate at several international competitions each year. His knowledge and experience of lameness diagnosis, and in particular foot problems, is widely recognised. John is an examiner for the Worshipful Company of Farriers and has also acted as an examiner for the RCVS. He also lectures on a regular basis at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester and makes regular contributions to various equestrian publications.

Chris Shepherd BVSc MRCVS

Chris qualified from Liverpool University Veterinary School in 1983 and worked in predominantly equine practice, including one year in New Zealand, before joining the Willesley Equine Clinic in 1986. He plays a leading role in the ambulatory side of the practice, providing first opinion care to a wide range of pleasure and competition horses. However, Chris has become recognised as a leading specialist in equine reproduction, and in particular artificial insemination (AI). He has been instrumental in the development of the AI Centre at Willesley, where mares are admitted for insemination with fresh, chilled and frozen semen. Chris is now involved with the management of the country's leading stallion semen collection centre at the West Kington Stud.

Svend E Kold DrMedVet PhD CUEW RFP MRCVS RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics)

Svend has twenty five years of experience in equine diagnostic and surgical orthopaedics. He obtained his PhD in Equine Orthopaedics during his ten year tenure at the Equine Research Station in Newmarket. Since 1993 he has been recognised as a RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics). He predominantly examines referrals from colleagues (approximately 250 a year) and is readily available on the telephone for colleagues to consult. He also ensures that referring veterinary surgeons receive a detailed report within forty eight hours of the horse leaving the Clinic. Svend is one of two equine hospital inspectors for the RCVS and is senior veterinary surgeon at Ascot Racecourse. He is undertaking an increasing number of instructions for expert witness reports and is registered by examination as an expert witness.

Peter Ravenhill BVSc CertEM(StudMed) MRCVS

Peter qualified from Bristol University Veterinary School in 1993 and spent two years in mixed practice in Cheshire before taking up a two year equine internship at Rossdale and Partners in Newmarket. This was followed by 5 months in Zimbabwe at the Veterinary Hospital in Harare, for the equine breeding season. In 1998 Peter returned to Rossdale's where he gained considerable experience in equine stud medicine and artificial insemination. He gained his RCVS certificate in Equine Stud Medicine in 1999. Peter then worked in an equine practice in Surrey, largely treating polo ponies and competition horses before joining the Willesley Equine Clinic in March 2001.

Oliver M Crowe BVSc CertES(Orth) MRCVS

Oliver undertook an Internship at Greenwood, Ellis and Partners in Newmarket before completing a residency in equine surgery at the Royal Veterinary College. After a period in racehorse practice in Lambourn he joined Willesley Equine Clinic in 2003 to continue the expansion of the surgical and diagnostic caseload. He enjoys all areas of equine surgery, but has particular interest in orthopaedic and minimally invasive surgery, especially arthroscopy, laparoscopy and fracture repair.

Richard J Hepburn BVSc DipACVIM MS CertEM(IntMed) MRCVS ACVIM Specialist in Internal Medicine
Richard joined the Willesley Equine Clinic in 2004 to strengthen the medicine side of the practice. Following three years in general equine practice and a spell in New Zealand, Richard completed a three year residency in equine medicine at the Marion Du Pont Scott Equine Medical Centre, Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, and has subsequently become Board Certified in Equine Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Extremely competent in all aspects of equine medicine, including neonatology, Richard has a special interest in gastric and duodenal ulcers and poor performance in horses. With our state-of-the-art digital video-gastroscope at the clinic, he is in a strong position to continue his research into this important problem.

Carolyne Crowe BSc BVetMed(Hons) MRCVS

Carolyne qualified with honours from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2002 and joined the Willesley Equine Clinic straight from university. She has been working within the stud and reproduction department of the practice for the last five seasons. Carolyne spent the 2004/2005 southern hemisphere stud season in a large equine practice in New Zealand to further her knowledge and experience of equine reproduction and paediatrics

G Mark Emerson BSc(Hons) BVSc MRCVS

Having gained a degree in Animal Science in 1997, Mark then went on to complete his veterinary training at Bristol University Veterinary School, during which he undertook externships in Newmarket and Argentina. He joined the Willesley internship programme in 2004, where he developed his clinical skills while also being responsible for the day-to-day management of all the hospital's in-patients. In March 2005 he joined the Willesley ambulatory department and has developed a special interest in opthalmology and wound management. Mark still finds time in the summer months to play polo professionally, having played off a 3-goal handicap for the last 9 years.

Katherine Hemson BVSc MRCVS

Katherine graduated from Bristol University Veterinary School in 1998 and initially worked in a mixed practice in Dorset before moving to a Specialist Equine Hospital in York. She spent two stud seasons in New Zealand and one in Newmarket before taking up a year-round position with Rossdale & Partners in Newmarket in 2005. She joined the Willesley Equine Clinic on a permanent basis in April 2007. Katherine has a particular interest in stud and first opinion ambulatory work.

Ewan Maskrey BVSc MRCVS

Ewan graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1998. After four years in mixed practice in Australia, he spent a year working as a locum vet in the UK (and the odd Contiki tour of Europe!) before returning to Queensland to work in stud practice. After five consecutive stud seasons working with predominantly large thoroughbred studs, he is back in the UK to assist the Willesley stud department while Carolyne Crowe enjoys some maternity leave. As a typical Aussie he is looking forward to the warmth of summer and some village cricket!

Jesper Rosenmeier KandVet MRCVS

Jesper graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon from Copenhagen University (Denmark) in August 2007, where his final year project was a study on laminitis in horses. He then immediately started the internship programme at Willesley, which he saw as a great opportunity to get a broad knowledge of equine veterinary work, especially to improve his skills in lameness examination and surgery/anaesthesia. Upon completing the internship programme later this year, Jesper will be joining Hoersholm Equine Practice in Denmark. Along with fellow intern, Emma Ridgway, his responsibilities at the clinic include anaesthesia, in-patient care, assisting with out-patient examinations, surgery, and out-of-hours on-call duty.

Emma Ridgeway BSc(Hons) MSc BVM&S MRCVS

Emma initially gained an honours degree in Zoology and worked for six years in wildlife conservation in the UK and overseas, during which time she also gained a Masters Degree by Research. She then retrained as a veterinary surgeon at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh and qualified in June 2007. A keen rider, Emma embarked upon the internship programme at Willesley in January 2008. She plans to forge a career in equine practice and is particularly interested in studwork and medicine. Along with fellow intern, Jesper Rosenmeier, her responsibilities at the clinic include anaesthesia, in-patient care, assisting with out-patient examinations, surgery, and out-of-hours on-call duty.
